Discovering new jewelry designers at IJL 2014

The best thing about trade fairs or other special gatherings with a given purpose or theme is that you have the chance to meet people with whom you share similar interests. You get to only speak briefly with some while with others you spend a little more time to find their story.

I've experienced both scenarios at International Jewellery London 2014, but my encounter with Hinna Azeem fits the second situation. She is a jewelry designer who grew up in London and has visited remote gemstone-rich regions, from Asia to Africa to South America, since childhood. I found out that, in terms of wearability, she really loves smoky quartz because she can get it in lots of different hues of brown.

As for her favorite jewelry items, Hinna was wearing them that day – her stacking rings, with sapphires and smoky Quartz.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you H. Azeem London!

Once upon a TIME

How lovely these watches are! Not only that I admire the craftsmanship behind them but I also find their history intriguing enough to make me wonder: who wore them and in what important moments of their lives were these watches used as a time reference system?

If only they could speak…

Jewelry at IJL 2014

A week has passed since my announcement about International Jewellery London (IJL) and I feel like I made it last month. So many beautiful things happened during my trip to UK that I needed time to digest all the information.

Getting back to the trade fair though, it was an excellent show! Starting with the facility to the exhibited jewelry and the people invited to participate at the fair. I discovered there a full range of techniques, gems and metals and the talented designers behind all of these. I suppose you already know how amazing it is to talk with someone who is passionate about his or her work and see it right there, on the spot.

I also remembered how great it is to travel. Not only that you meet interesting people, but you face new situations and cultures, both meaningful and inspiring. No wonder that many of the designers have pointed their trips to Asia, Africa or other places as their main source of inspiration used in their creations.

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s a glimpse of IJL 2014:
